 Well first of all there are grant programs out there for those that want to start their own business but there are some conditions....First you might want to check your own state's website to see if they have any grant programs available for those that want to start their own business.  I have posted on my grants blog about different states that have these kinds of grant programs available.

Another source for grant funding that many people seem to overlook is their own community!  Local municipalities receive grant funding all the time and some of this grant money can be used for those who want to start a business IF they can prove that their business will help the community.

There are also a number of grant programs relating to starting a business that are provided by entities that are outside the government like other organizations and foundations - so you should also check those resources as well.

I should also tell you that on the average these kind of grant programs will require that you have a business plan of some sort to prove at least that you are serious about what it is that you want to do.

As far as "fast" is concerned you should know that grant programs operate on their own timetable and not yours!

Grant Funding Available For Those Parents Who Have Children Who Have Autisim

Those who are eligible are encouraged to apply.

Respite or child care, including private babysitting.

Summer camp programs.

Autism or advocacy related conferences, workshops or training opportunities.

Recreational or community programs.

Modifications or adaptations for home and community safety.

In order to be eligible, applicants must reside in Pennsylvania, be either an adult with ASD or have a family member with ASD, and may not have received other family support services for the past 12 months.

Applications must be postmarked no later than April 18, and faxed or e-mailed applications will not be accepted. Those individuals applying for ineligible services will have their applications disqualified.

Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, and awardees will be notified by mail in mid-May. Those applicants who did not receive grants in 2007 will be given priority. For additional information on the mini-grant program or for an application, you can visit the grant program's site or you can contact them by phone. 

I came upon a very interesting article concerning grants and its relationship towards women and how (the article says) they should "get married" as opposed to being single mothers.  Here are some excerpts from the article:

Apparently a leader of a "fatherhood" movement introduced policies promoting marriage as a "cure for poverty"

Government grants (in the millions of dollars) have funded a number of programs that are related to encouraging "low-income women — especially welfare recipients — to marry and bring a father into their families."

A number of faith-based and non faith-based organizations have applied for and gotten grants to help encourage women to marry and bring a father into the household

What is very ironic about all of this is that while the government grant funding for these "marriage" programs is on the increase other government grant programs for low-incomed people has decreased!

Did you know that there is one organization had a budget of over $1 billion dollars! — also makes grants to promote marriage?

There seems to be an implication that "welfare recipients are young African-American women of loose sexual morals, who can be saved from their poverty and sin only through the restoration of the traditional father-headed nuclear family." Just another example of the kinds of government grants (whether they are considered good or bad) that are out there!

If you are looking for funding (and I do mean grant funding) to start your own business then I suggest that the first place that you start is with your own state's website.  I have posted about many a grant program started by different states to help boost the economy of that state.

I have seen some of the posts that people have written to you.  Some nice and some 'whiny'.

My Dad always taught me this "if you want something done, and want it done right, do it yourself."  

I teach others "if you want something DONE, do it yourself".

I know what it is to have NEED.  However, few things in life are FREE.

So, unless we know someone (a friend, relative) that will show us then we have the following OPTIONS:  (1) FIND the information ourselves, or (2) TAKE a class on grantwriting.  They teach these at most community colleges and online, or (3) Contact our local Chamber of Commerce & Small Business Administration, or (4) Go to the library, interet or purchase a grantwriting book, or  (5) PAY someone else to get the info for us.

I know all of the EXCUSES, they run from not having money to needing what little do have for food, etc.  We can give every excuse in the world, no matter how true they are it still WILL NOT change our OPTIONS. 

Complaining about other people not doing stuff for us, or them charging a fee for doing stuff will not help our situation in the least!

And, another thing.  On this site, all information offered here is done a voluntary basis.  No one is REQUIRED to give anyone anything. 

I am just so grateful to the people who are able to provide some insight and direction sometime.

The reason why I advise people to go to their nearest social service agency is because that is where the information is.  Now if they don't have the information then it is no one's fault but their own!

And the bottom line is that if you don't have any money to pay someone then you will have to find this information yourself - another reason why I suggest the social service agencies because they do not charge to help you find information about grant programs.  I have even dealt with a few where I had to help THEM with information!

If you can't find help at the social agencies you can start with your own state's website and the government's own website - which are both free and open to the public

Dear Harry: I feel compelled to come to Rose's defense. You are attacking her without cause. THERE IS HELP AVAILABLE, but don't expect it to fall in your lap or come knocking on your door. Rose has offered a lot of information that if you were so inclined, you would research a little further on your own to get the help you need. YES! She is in the BUSINESS of helping people access grants. However, she offers advice and bits of info which you could benefit from IF you tried. Maybe she has a point that people do not value what they have not invested any time, effort or energy in pursuing and has found a way to help people and derive an income from it. First YOU need to understand that not all grants are CASH to you but some are benefits with value. Rose. Thanks for the Information. I need a grant to purchase a home for myself and my adult son that have Autism. We are both disabled. I have heard over and over again that there are no grants for indivisuals to purchase a home. Have you ever help anyone to get a grant to purchase a home? How do I find the help that I need with out paying someone a bunch of money that I don't have to obtain a grant? Where do I look if I don't know what I am looking for? I visited Grant Basic 101. It did not help me at all in finding a grant for my needs. I know that nothing is really free but give us something that we can really use. You said that the Goverment will give housing grant to people who are disabled. all I have to do is ask. Ask who? and how? You tell what grant money is available for but no specific information on where to go to get it.

Rosebud, It seems as though you know what you are talking about as far as grants go but you never really tell any of us how to get them except to go to the social service agency. I have been to them and they for whatever reason had no idea what I was talking about. I also noticed on one of your websites that you yourself may be charging money for the information you have access to. Hi rose, I am so glad your brother is well taken care of. Please pray for other service members. For all are not taken care of as well. Even those that do get checks, often do not get the best of medical care. One can just listen to/or read the news to know what is going on with the wounded veterans and their care. Many of my fellow service members are neglected or lost in the cracks of the system. Some received injuries in Iraq but still are not getting a check or adequate medical care at this time. President Bush and congress is working to rectify this issue but it has a way to go. Your prayers are greatly needed for all the service members. Thanks a bunch, Soldier girl

Hi Rose, I went to your site: grant 101. Alot of people are looking for grants to pay their individual bills. Do you know where one may find assistance with these? I know 2 people who are seeking assistance with electric and housing. LEAP is not efficient/funds not available in their state. Thanks.

If you have your doubts about a particular company do a check with the Better Business Burea - that way you will see if there are any complaints against that company. But here is something else that you should consider. Where do you think these companies got their information? They did the work to find the information - that is why they charge a fee because they have already done the work to find the information. If you're worried about having to pay a fee or don't have the money to pay the fee then you can find the information yourself - just like all those companies do. Over 95% of all the grant information that I have found has been online but I do the work to find it - which is exactly what you will have to do if you want to find the information. Have you talked to anyone at your local social services agency? Since they are a part of the government who would best know about the government programs than them? Now other grant programs that are offered by non-governmental agencies require more work but the bulk of information about their grant programs are online as well.

Hi! I need help. I have been trying to find a grant to start a combo for profit and not for profit daycare center. Everywhere I look, there are companies that for a so-called "small" fee can give me a list of federal grants. Which companies can I trust? Also, I would like to open up a building, in my rural town, to house the daycare. I also need info on who I can contact about daycare licenses. I am an educator in Alabama.

They said that my husband makes too much money. He only makes a little over 11.00 an hour and as we all know anymore thats just not enough. They go by your gross pay and not your bring home which is not that much.

If you are a member of the military, the government will usually provide you with free housing grant as part of your benefit. It is very convenient for you and your family because you will be having housing funds provided by the government. And, the good thing about this is that it's free. This means that you'll never have to repay the government for the housing grant they provided you. You can also qualify if you are a family member of a veteran, usually in the first degree. This means that if you are a child of a retired military or a veteran, you can also qualify for the government's free housing grant. Another person who can qualify for a home grants are persons who are disabled. The government will provide housing grant for disabled people. If you are disabled physically, all you have to do is ask the government for housing grants. They will usually give it to you. Native American Indians also qualifies for housing grants. They are even given by the government reservations for tribes. Being a member of a particular Native American Indian tribe will give you housing grants from the government.

Here is an interesting website that someone told me about. You get paid for answering surveys. They give you $6 to signup. But you should be aware of some things. First off they have 2 payment options - you can either get paid via a check in the mail though it takes 4-6 weeks to get it or you can get paid via your Paypal account. That's why I thought of this forum because so many people that post here have a Paypal account. First let me tell you that you have to accumulate $75 before you can cash out and be forewarned that if you option to take the paypal option $25 will be deducted. So if you cash out at $75 and use the Paypal option then the company will take out a $25 fee and you will only get $50. Now I did some research online and I found that the opinions of this program are about half and half. Some people complain about the program saying that they don't offer enough surves and there is are an equal number of people who have said that they have gotten their money. So you can visit the site and decide for yourself. I joined it yesterday and managed to rake up $25 so far in my account so that means that I have another $50 dollars to go before I can cash out. If any of you have a website or blog this program also has an affiliate program where you can add their banner to your site and you will get paid for those that sign up. Now the reason I posted this here is because so many people have computers so taking a few minutes to make some money answering surveys does not seem like a bad thing. Also a lot of people here have posted that they have paypal accounts so why not make them work for you.

If you need money to help re-train yourself then there is a lot of re-training money available from the government, go to your station capital and ask for the grant programs that can give you up to $9,000 to train for a new career or upgrade your skills

The "government grant thing" does NOT cost you money if you do the work and find the information yourself - whether you find the information online or you find it in the library. It also does not cost if you go to a local social services organization to find out what financial programs you are eligible for. You have to use what you have - which is access to a computer, access to a library and access to your local social service organization.

Some interesting points about your post. You mentioned paying for some weatherization repairs - all the while there is a program available for all 50 states regarding providing free weatherization - I have helped a client use this program to get a new heating system - all for free! Someone has since told me that this kind of job - including labor, parts and insulation would have cost the person well over $3500! Imagine getting that kind of work done for free! I also have had the chance to talk to the contractor who does the work for this weatherization program and you know what he told me? He said that this kind of program was so great for those that needed and he was wondering why more people had not applied for such a program. Your husband is 66 years old and that means that he qualifies as a senior - seniors have access to a TON of funding programs! You can not tell me that there are no "mobile home" grants because I know that there are Lastly there are grants for financial emergencies that include repairs to the home. Again you can not tell me that there are no such grants because I know that there are. And if you have the CFDA catalog and can not find just one program that you are eligible for then you are not looking right! It may be hard words to take but if you just knew how many people (including immigrants) who lived in mobile homes got grant money it would anger you no end!

Unfortunately since I do this kind of work for a living I can honestly tell you that you haven't tried everything. It may be frustrating (as some people have told me) but the very fact that there are so many government (and non-government) programs out there lets me know that you haven't tried everything. One of the biggest complaints I have heard is that this "free" grant information can be found by anyone that can use a public library or who has access to the Internet. The fact that you haven't found any programs to help you doesn't mean that they aren't out there - that just means that you haven't found them yet.

Unfortunately your situation is so legally complex that you are going to have to have some help. I know of (and have taken part in) cases where people have defended theirselves and won. Unfortunately these kind of added complicated situations have been put in place to "test" us and what counts now is what you are going to do about it - whether it be calling NY more or taking the time to make your own case. I know that there is legal help available (to varying degrees) and unfortunately you have to keep looking for them until you find them - no one knows this better than me!

Hi Rose ,I've tried everything to get help , I've tried hud epa building together snap and many more there doesn't seem to be a program, to help us. It's a long story we have toxic mold which is causing health problems.we are disabled, husband had stroke son can't breath, wife disabled tried to get help.don't no who else to contact thanks sandy6

Hi Rose, First of all, thanks for visiting my aidpage. I am trying hard to keep up with people who have taken a look at what is going on. I write some on it most days...just to keep things up and let people know what is going on. I wonder if you know of a way I can get help with the costs of going to New York to fight this custody battle, and a way to obtain a lawyer there. I live in Nebraska, so legal aid here is not any help, I need a N.Y. lawyer since the case is there. I bet I have made a thousand calls to N.Y. in fifteen months. My problems are surely manageable given some resources to go to. I have taken a series of hits to my income that have me in dire straits financially and I do not want to lose out on getting my grandchildren back because I am poor. I feel like I should have been less honest with the people who contacted me from New York about the interstate compact or something. I am not sure why they are so adamant about the children staying there when I have passed a home study by Child Protective Services here and be accepted as a case specific foster provider for my Grandchildren. I had them for a long time, my daughter lost them to ACS (association of children's sevcies) in N.Y. and now I can't seem to get the people there to budge. I realize that the foster care agency makes money on this venture, enough that they can afford to give the foster care family a thousand dollars a month (for each child) for the care of my grandchildren and still make money to stay in business! The foster care family has collected $45,000 in fifteen months for my grandchildren! They are picking the home study apart, although it was positive in outcome, they seem to think that the children are bonded to the foster family now although the reason this is taking so long is their fault not mine! Please if you can think of a way for me to get my grandchildren back to Nebraska, let me know what I can do. Thank You and God Bless you. Then there comes the question of what "everything else" is? You mentioned that you got help with your electric and some others but you didn't mention what the "others" were so there's no way of knowing what help that you got and what you still need help with. As I mentioned before there are organizations that will provide emergency assistance if you can show need. You mentioned that you did get some help but how and where did you get that help. Did you get it directly or did you have a person or agency to help you. A social services agency will be able to tell you about some of the programs that can help you.

Children who are covered by commercial insurance that does not pay for all their medical expenses can receive grants up to $5,000 from this Children's Foundation. Services such as speech therapy, physical therapy and orthodontics for children can cost thousands of dollars and are not always fully covered under typical insurance plans. "This is something families come up against,". There are few places for families with gaps in their coverage to go. We're filling the gap." Since its inception in the spring of 2000, the foundation has helped more than 375 families across the country with nearly $1 million in grants. The average grant has been about $2,300 per child, according to the foundation's Web site. High said the project began on the east coast. The foundation is trying to expand its reach across the whole country. Most of the grants that have been given out so far have gone to cover different types of therapy or medical equipment such as wheelchairs but they are not limited to these services. Hello, I have no idea how to work this website, so hopefully you will get this message. How much money it will cost for my cat is about $125-150 per day to keep my cat at the Vets. This includes 1 enema, Watchful Eyes whom I trust and care each day he stays there. I have already spent every dime and fear I may have to put my cat to sleep. He is in alot of pain after he eats. He is so Calm and I think he knows he may be dying. I love my cat and may have to put him to sleep, the pain he must feel has to be unbearable.

For the single mothers out there there are organizations that have grant programs and provide emergency financial assistance to those single mothers that can demonstrate need. You have to realize that these organizations want to help single mothers and that their organizations were started to help single mothers. I know these programs provide a very good service to those single mothers in need. If you live in Kentucky there is an organization that currently has 85 grant programs available and those women/single mothers who have been victims of domestic violence are given special preference. Talk to a social worker or public agency because they should have the information about these programs. In my state (PA) there is a program to help those that have a job but low income to help purchase a car. If this kind of program is available in my state then you should check and see if it is available in your state as well. There are many organizations (and government programs) that help people with their heating bills. I know this for a fact because I have helped clients get into these kinds of programs. These programs help with paying some of your heating bills and will even provide you with a new heating system if yours is beyond repair. Again check with the social agencies because they should have this information. Caregivers - if you are taking care of a relative then you should also contact the social agencies because there are programs that will pay you to act as caregivers - BUT be sure to read the forms because some of these programs will hold on to the person's assets in order to pay you. If this isn't a problem then you should look into these programs as well. Now this is going to make you angry but in Kentucky there are 85 grant programs to help people either buy a house or help with financial need and so far this program has been helping those that were born OUT of the United States. Your very best bet is to find your local social agency because that is what they are there for to help people. Now there are grant programs to help people that want to start their own business. The bulk of these grant programs require that you submit a business plan - of which you can find examples of online.

There have been many homeless shelters that have received grant monies but the one important thing that you will have to understand is that you have to have a detailed summary of what it is you want the grant money for. I just got finished finding information for a client about an organization that has awarded millions of dollars in grants towards youth programs. A new training program has been started to help train residents of the are who would like to receive training for construction skills. The need for skilled workers has outweighed the supply so the training program has been started. FEMA Doles Out $8.2 Million For New Hampshire Flood Grants. The Federal Emergency Management Agency reports giving the most grants, more than $780,000 worth, to Salem residents since last week's application deadline. Manchester received the second largest amount, more than $560,000 dollars. The U.S. Small Business Administration reported awarding nearly 11.5 million in low interest loans to 415 New Hampshire individuals and businesses.

I was quite surprised at the number of programs that were available - some of them requiring no more than filling out a few forms. As I started to work from home other people starting asking me about how they could work from home and that began my consulting business. There were lots of "stories" about grants so I decided to find out for myself what the truth was and the truth was (and still is) that there are grant programs out there for just about any endeavor whether it be for-profit or non-profit! I have gotten many individual grants for others so I know that the programs are out there. So then one day someone called me a scam and that let me know right there that I had chosen the right career! People want the information but they don't want to take the time and effort to find it and that is just what they are going to have to do if they want to apply for these grant programs. I really couldn't be objective on the courses because I took my own route as far as the grantwriting is concerned. Nothing is more better than actual experience and actual results. Every individual has a different story/circumstance and truly you will have to decide for yourself.

I'm sorry but "where there is a will there is a way"! You are forgetting that big companies get grant funding all the time and a lot of the organizations don't have an income limit for applicants. I don't know what agencies you have contacted but the fact remains that the programs are out there.

Hi Rose; Both my husband and I are disabled and need help writing a grant. We have two grant books, but we are unable to write a grant request. I have tried, but no one has gotten back to us. The agencies we have contacted say that we are "over income" since we got married. My husband is disabled too, but gets Social Security, Vetrans and a pension. Unfortuntly we have more in bills than he makes. I don't have any income.That doesn't seem to matter to the agencies. I suppose we could get divorced........,especially since the contractor took 70K from us and we have a very high mortgage with a predatory lender. We have tried without success. If you still feel that there's still "no hope" then tell that to: the single mother who was one of my clients who got a $20,000 grant to start her own business, has an application that is still pending to help pay back her student loan my very first "grant" client that is a writer who got a $20,000 grant the woman that got a $150,000.00 grant to start a daycare center the disabled man that got a grant to start his own business. He got a $10,000 grant - last year his business made over $500,000 in sales! the woman that got a grant to buy more play equipment for her daycare which was in her home and FOR-PROFIT our government's website that lists who got what federal money for the past 5 years (last year over 5 BILLION DOLLARS was given out in (just) federal monies alone! the woman who got a $700 grant to start her quilting business. Now that may not seem like a lot of money to you but she MADE it work for her because it was enough for her to buy material and equipment to get buyers for her quilts. As she made more money she was able to get a more conventional loan. Planned Parenthood who receives 250 million dollars per year in government grants! Sheri Winchell of Maryland who lost her job in telemarketing and received government money to start a monogram store in a shopping mall. Composer/singer/songwriter /lyricist, Bobby Robinson received a grant to help write music for film. the daycare providers in Cambria county who were recipients of a $3 Million Dollar grant funding. They were considered "subcontractors" who provided daycare services and some of them were friends and relatives and neighbors who simply agree to provide daycare services... these people/recipients didn't give up hope
