"I have a therory .. if it sounds good its not.. "
Unfortunately the person that posted this does not do grant research for a living.
All you have to do is take a look at the news to find out how people are being prosecuted for taking advantage of government grants. As a matter of fact I have posted on my blog about sex offenders who were able to get government money to take online classes and what makes the story even worse is that some of them spent the money on other stuff like electronics.
"You are better off looking for private grant funding it takes about a week just to go through all grants available. Dont be fooled by the ads you see there really is nothing through the federal unless you are a organization @ nonprofit. Or if you are a scientist or involved in bio. You will not get any grants to pay your bills or put you in housing dont get your hopes up on misleading ads take it from someone who has searched."
Then I really suggest that you take a look at my blog at:
At the top of my grants blog I mention about one of my clients who was looking for grants to help her with her for-profit daycare business. I was able to send her TEN PAGES worth of grant program information!
You are telling people that just because there is work involved in finding grants that they shouldn't bother.
As someone that does this for a living I really have to tell you that you do not know what you are talking about.
First of all I just got finished posting to my blog about the MULTITUDE of grants that are available to artists who were affected by hurricane Katrina. I suggest that you take a look at that blog entry of mine.
Exactly what type of poetry "business" are you talking about? Are you saying that you want to be a professional poetry writer and earn an income from it? Is this the work that you want to do at home?
There have been writers - including poets - who have received grant money before and there are still grant programs like that that are still available. I have posted before about how the writer who authored the "Harry Potter" books had received a writing-related grant during the beginnings of her writing career.
You have to get on the internet and start looking for these grant programs because they are out there. I can understand you being hesitant about wanting to pay money when you are not even sure of a company and goodness knows that there are a lot of grant scams out there. But if you want to make sure that you won't get "taken" the best way is to find the information yourself. How do you think that these companies get this information in the first place - they look for it and that is exactly what you have to do.
As a matter of fact I just got some information in about how inmates who are incarcerated have been getting government money to take online courses! Now if inmates can find out about this money - why can't OTHER people?
The one thing that you have to understand about federal grant programs is that since they are being financed by taxpayer dollars - the information has to be (and is) freely accessible to the public. That means that information about the government grant programs is available online and in public libraries.
But what you should also know is that its just not the government that has grant programs. Other entities like foundations and organizations have them too and while they are not obligated to make their information about their grant programs freely accessible to the public they want to make the information about their grant programs known to as many people as possible. As a matter of fact there have been a lot of grant programs that have stopped simply because no one or not enough people applied for them!
Here is another fact that you should know about grants that have to do with going back to school. There are a lot of them out there! Why? Because the government (and the schools)encourage and want people to go back to school. Why? So that they can get a better education - which really when you think about it helps the person who wants to go back to school in the first place). There are colleges and universities out ther that are now offering grant packages instead of student loans because this puts less of a financial strain on the student(s). In my research I have found out some very amazing things about grants related to going back to school. For instance there are some "black" colleges that are offering full tuition financial support for "white" students to attend their colleges. Crazy isn't it?
Since you already seem to have access to the internet then that is where you should start searching.
One thing that you should know about grant "hunting" is that the kinds of grants that you apply for will depend on the kind of business that you want to start. There is just not a grant program for someone that wants to start a business of their own. It will depend on the KIND of business that it is that you want to start.
Now there are some states that offer grant programs for those that want to start their own business so the best thing for you to do is to check out your own state's website to see if they have such programs available in your own state.
There are some grant programs for those that want to start their own business that are being offered by entities other than the government like foundations and organizations but they too have their eligibility requirements and they are not all the same. For instance there is a grant program for those who are minorities who want to start their own business. That grant award is $20,000 and they award more than one grant! Previous grant recipients include those who started their own catering business and another who started her own film company.
Over 90% of the grant information that I have found has been from the internet and since you have access the internet would be the very best place to start. A lot of these organizations that have grant programs have an online web presence including information on how you can contact them. Some of them even allow email access!
"Dear Rose,Im new to all this, just found the site today while searching the web, nice.Anyway,im trying to find the funds to start my own small decorative concrete business, for equipment, marketing, and working capitol money, any ideas, needed really fast before someone else gets it going here where I live.Any info would be great,I just dont know where or how to do this, plus i dont have a job or any cash and i dont know what to do.Please help.I have 3 kids to,that needs there toys, clothes ETC... Thank You So Much,Tony"
Well first of all there are grant programs out there for those that want to start their own business but there are some conditions....First you might want to check your own state's website to see if they have any grant programs available for those that want to start their own business. I have posted on my grants blog about different states that have these kinds of grant programs available.
Another source for grant funding that many people seem to overlook is their own community! Local municipalities receive grant funding all the time and some of this grant money can be used for those who want to start a business IF they can prove that their business will help the community.
There are also a number of grant programs relating to starting a business that are provided by entities that are outside the government like other organizations and foundations - so you should also check those resources as well.
I should also tell you that on the average these kind of grant programs will require that you have a business plan of some sort to prove at least that you are serious about what it is that you want to do.
As far as "fast" is concerned you should know that grant programs operate on their own timetable and not yours!

The very best way to ensure not becoming privy to a "scam" is to just be able to find the information yourself. That is one of the biggest arguments about grant programs - is that the information is "freely accessible to the public". However this doesn't apply to all grant programs - just those that are provided by the government.
There are quite a few grant programs out there for those that want to start their own business - only they are not government grant programs but grant programs provided by organizations, foundations and even other businesses.
There are many film-related grant programs out there and I suggest you visit both my grants blog and website to find out more about these kinds of grant programs.
once you start looking you'll be surprised at the number of grant programs that are out there that are related to film-making.
And I would also advise you to look "outside the box" and not just limit your searching to film-related grants. Since you mentioned that you would like to start your own business you should also look into some of the grant programs relating to starting one's own business.
You can even "modify" your own objectives as far as starting your film business is concerned. There have been those who have received funding because they made a certain type of film such as those relating to nature or history - serving a specific purpose of which there are many grant programs for!
I came upon a very interesting article concerning grants and its relationship towards women and how (the article says) they should "get married" as opposed to being single mothers. Here are some excerpts from the article:
Apparently a leader of a "fatherhood" movement introduced policies promoting marriage as a "cure for poverty"
Government grants (in the millions of dollars) have funded a number of programs that are related to encouraging "low-income women — especially welfare recipients — to marry and bring a father into their families."
A number of faith-based and non faith-based organizations have applied for and gotten grants to help encourage women to marry and bring a father into the household
What is very ironic about all of this is that while the government grant funding for these "marriage" programs is on the increase other government grant programs for low-incomed people has decreased!
Did you know that there is one organization had a budget of over $1 billion dollars! — also makes grants to promote marriage?
There seems to be an implication that "welfare recipients are young African-American women of loose sexual morals, who can be saved from their poverty and sin only through the restoration of the traditional father-headed nuclear family." Just another example of the kinds of government grants (whether they are considered good or bad) that are out there!
A lot of states have their own grant programs for those that want to start their own business. I talk about some of them on my blog Grant Basics 101 at:
There are also a number of national programs that have grant programs for those that want to start their own business.
Now if its partners that you are looking for then you are going to have to do some work to find them. You should create some kind of business plan/ proposal so that you will have it ready to present to them. There are still quite a number of investors and venture capital around and you might want to look into them also.
While I do agree with what you posted about people helping themselves I also have to tell you that as someone that does grant research for a living there really is "free" money out there that is available BUT you have to know what you are doing!
You are not going to get money for nothing but there are many grant programs out there that are available. It really is sad when people post about something that they don't know about and who have convinced themselves of what they are talking about.
I have various experiences with grant programs that help others. Getting help with things like bills and heating and repairs and such are all programs that are provided by the government.
Before you tell people that there is no "free" money I really suggest that you be absolutely sure of what you speak about because I have to tell you that you are most definitely wrong.
But you ARE right in your post about people being able to help themselves.
First of all there is such a great need for nurses that there are financial programs out there that will help pay for both your nursing school education and those expenses related to you being able to work as a nurse.
Since you have access to the internet I suggest that you start looking for these financial programs. As soon as this gets posted that will mean that you won't be the only one seeing this post so the sooner you can find and apply for these programs the better!
The "gas" request that you brought up can be solved by looking into the programs that provide financial assistance to those who want to have a career as a nurse. As a matter of fact everything that you are seeking financial assistance for can be found out by finding out more about the programs that I mentioned above.
If you are looking for funding (and I do mean grant funding) to start your own business then I suggest that the first place that you start is with your own state's website. I have posted about many a grant program started by different states to help boost the economy of that state.
There are also national grant-related programs that one can apply for. Some of them have specific requirements such as being a woman or a minority but you won't know what those specifc requirements are until you can read more info about the grant program.
Over 90% of all the information that I have found out about grant programs has been online!
Have there been grants given to help people start their own recording business? The answer is yes. But there are a few "buts" here! These are very highly sought after grants and the more people that know about them the more people will apply for them and that lessens your chances of being awarded such a grant. There have even been some grammy award-winning artists that have received grants!
Before you start applying for grants you are going to have to have (at the very least) a business plan to show that you are serious about what it is you want to do.
Are you experiencing a lack of self esteem? Of humour? Of energy? Of love? Of money and abundance?
Whatever you believe you are missing, it is there to be claimed. The first step starts with shifting your perspective. See the glass as half full rather than half empty. Focus on accepting what you DO have, and more will be attracted to you.
"Both abundance and lack exist simultaneously in our lives, as parallel realities. It is always our conscious choice which secret garden we will tend... when we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance thats present -- love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature and personal pursuits that bring us pleasure -- the wasteland of illusion falls away and we experience Heaven on earth."
You would be quite amazed at the number of people that have a blog with a button for paypal donations. Some of these sites even have a "tip" jar on the site.
However I should emphasize that in order to be able to get money with paypal you have to have a bank account and credit card.
because I recently made a blog entry about how there are more and more legitmate work at home companies out there. The bulk of them involve hiring people who will work from their home(s) and providing customer assistance to their company's customers.
One of the things that you have to learn about getting investors is that you have to go to them - they won't come to you!
Donald Trump is a great example of this!
You posted that you would like to start a real (estate) investment company - how far have you gotten so far?
Have you drawn up a proposal / presentation that you can present to potential investors? Investors are going to want to know what will be in it for them.
Here is a link to my "Investor's Bulletin Board" page
There are also a lot of online information that you should be researching as well. An investor bought a house on my block and he has taken the "for sale" sign down because he can not find a buyer! Now I'm not saying that this will happen to you but you should learn as much about real estate investing as possible.
I "dabble" in it and I do know that there are ways that investors get properties at lower than market values but I really have this problem with the fact that these investors are getting the properties at the expense of people who have had to give up their homes!
Have you ever heard of Joyce Meyers? I recently was watching her on television. She is a great inspirational speaker who is a minister.
Basically what she says is that you have to make the decision to take control of your life. If you want to be debt free then you have to make the decision to be debt-free.
I remember hearing something that Anthony Robbins said and it was that when he and his wife were poor and facing bankruptcy he decided then and there not to be poor any more!
One of the first things that you are going to have to do is to realize that you matter. You wouldn't be on this earth if you didn't matter!
Nobody here knows the depths of your debt but there are always things that can be worked on. But you really have to start with yourself first!

You haven't mentioned whether or not you have been to your local social service or state agency yet. These are local branches of federally funded government programs.
There are also a number of non-governmental organziations that have programs that provide financial assistance.
But start with the agencies first because they would know best about the financial help programs that are out there.
From your post there are so many things that you need help with. As far as your bills go you should first check with your local social services agency because they would know about the government programs that you may be eligible for.
There are quite a few grants and scholarships and financial programs for women who want to go to or continue their schooling so you should start looking for these kinds of financial programs. Since looking online would be more convenient you should start your searching there.
The very first client that I ever had was a single mother who wanted to start a business of her own and finish getting her degree. Doing work for her I found that there are organizations that specifically help single mothers as well (as a matter of fact I just posted on my blog about a grant program for single moms that is awarding $1000 for a single mom to start her own business. Additionally the grant recipient will also get a new computer and printer as well as a website created for their business) as other organizations that specifically help women.
Practically all the information that you need to know you can find online just like I have.
Unfortunately this is not true. As someone that does grant research I can tell you that there are many grant and scholarship programs out there for nurses and the reason is because of the shortage of and the need for nurses.
There are also programs that provide financial help for single mothers. My very first grant research client was a single mother who was looking for financial help with both starting her own business and continuing her education. Since this was a few years back I was able to find her 4 such programs that provided finacial assistance including providing financial help with her student loan. Yes there is actually an organization out there devoted to helping single mothers financially with their student loans.
Just because you can't find the information about these programs doesn't mean that they don't exist - it just means that you haven't found the information yet.
What you fail to realize here is that finding the information about grant programs - especially the ones that one may specifically qualify for - takes work - a lot of it - and attention to detail.
Would you say this very same thing about the people that do income taxes for a living? They should just do people's income taxes for free - yet and still the income tax preparers have bills and families to care for too......
You should also address your "reasoning" to the grantwritiers and other grant researchers out there too and see what kind of response that you get.
Lastly, one of the biggest arguments about government grants, grants and the grant process in general is that this information is available free to the public but it seems that the "public" is having a hard time trying to find the information. The problem with THAT is that just because this information is hard to find doesn't mean that it isn't out there - its just hard to find!
I do this for a living and I know enough about it to know that there are grant programs out there for people that want to start their own business - depending on the kind of business that they want to start. If you haven't found the information about these grant programs and whether or not you are eligible to apply for them then you just have to keep looking because the information (and the grant programs) are out there.
If you are going to whine and complain - well let's just see how far that gets you.....
A "company that needs a poet"? Have you tried greeting card companies? You should also think about investing in a copy of "The Writer's Market Handbook" - it lists publishers and what they are looking for in the way of submissions.
Have you considered songwriting? That is related to poetry and artists are always looking for good material.
If you are looking for a way to "commercialize" your poetry you might want to take a look at my "Working From Home" blog at:
Here is a quick excerpt that I got off the internet:
"Let me give you the upshot of this book in a quick thumbnail. Yes, it is possible to make a living as a poet, no matter what your mother told you. But you must remember two important points if you want to make a living as a poet: first, you will not make a living at writing poetry. Second, you must do something no one has ever done before.
This book is full of examples of people who make a living (or part of a living) as poets, and the ways they do so. And none of them make their living by sitting in their garrets inscribing verse. They all find ways to get out into the community and sell themselves, AS POETS, as a commodity that people are willing to buy. "
While there are grant programs out there to help one start a business you would really have to provide more information about the kind of business that you want to start.
For instance I know of a grant program open to minorities that want to start their own business and one of their recent grant recipients used the movie to start her own film company.
However this grant program is not provided by the government. It is provided by anther organization. The program itself has been around for a while now.
If you are not a minority then you should look into other grant programs that you may be eligible to apply for. I know that a grammy award-winning musician has gotten more than one government grant. Local areas also sometimes have grant programs for those that want to start their own business. There is a grant program especially geared towards those with disabilities who want to start their own business.
Unfortunately just because you are having trouble finding these grant programs doesn't mean that they don't exist - you just have to keep looking until you find them.
For instance I had a client who was looking for grant programs for her for-profit daycare. Now if you look on line or listen to the so-called "experts" they will tell you that such grant programs don't exist. If that is the case then why was I able to find this client over 10 pages worth of information on grant programs that her for-profit daycare is eligible to apply for?
The bottom line is just that you have to keep looking for these grant programs because they are out there - and quite surprisingly some of them are just begging for people to apply for them!
There are usually state programs that will help pay for dental work based on your income...if you have no dental insurance. Contact your local department of Job and Family Services for referrals to agencies. Usually there are also free or reduced dental clinics run by large churches also....if you have Vineyard churches in your area check with them. Good luck!
It had to be one of the coldest day of the year in January, my lights were being shut off as well as my gas. I think I asked every family member I could find and they all said no or something like get...
